Beginner 1 & 2: Ages 3.5+
A Perfect Introduction to Irish Dance!
Our Beginner Irish Dance class focuses on the basics that are essential to Irish dance! We start by explaining the importance of foot placement and body/arm control because that is what make Irish dancers UNIQUE! We explore and teach the various musical tunes and rhythms by listening, counting, and clapping along to each tune! Beginners will learn dances named the light jig and the reel and many different variations of steps for each! We love to have fun by doing silly exercises and warmups and incorporate Irish dance games at the end of each class! Beginner classes are 45 minutes.
Advanced Beginner
Time for HARD SHOE!
Your amazing dancer has now completed beginner 1&2 and is ready to move onto Advanced Beginner! They will now be challenged with a new dance called the slip jig. Along with learning this dance, we will continue reviewing the light jig and reel. In advanced beginner, we start preparing dancers with choreography that moves around the stage more. We introduce them to harder moves to practice and challenge themselves inside and outside of the studio. We encourage dancers to compete, but also accept and support dancers who just want to dance as a hobby! Once we feel dancers are ready with all 3 soft shoe dances, we introduce… HARD SHOE! Advanced beginners will need to have a pair of hard shoes when this time comes. We will begin teaching the basic rhythms, techniques, and steps of fast treble jig and fast hornpipe. Advanced beginner classes are 45 minutes.
Novice
Challenge Accepted!
Your hardworking dancer has either won a 1st in reel, slip jig, treble jig, and hornpipe, or was bumped up by Miss Colleen and is now ready to take a novice level class! Dancers in novice will learn more intricate material for their soft shoe. This will include new moves that will be added to their steps when their teacher feels it is ready on their right and left foot. Novice dancers will also learn slow treble jig and slow hornpipe. The tune slows down, but the footwork gets fancier! Novice classes are combined with pre-novice or novice-champ. Pre-novice-novice classes are 1h and novice-champ classes are 1h45m.
Prizewinner
One Step Away From CHAMP!
Wow! Your dancer has reached the prizewinner level! They have either won 1st in reel, slip jig, treble jig, and hornpipe, or was bumped up by Miss Colleen and is now ready to take a prizewinner level class! Prizewinner classes are often combined with champ classes in order for your dancer to be inspired for what the next level is. We feel that our dancers work harder at this level when surrounded by high level dancers. Prizewinner dancers will learn challenging material and will practice as if they are already a champ. Classes consist of warmups, drills for moves and stamina, step review, and learning new material. PW-Champ classes are 1h45m
Preliminary & Open Champion
Top of the box!
Your dancer is a CHAMPION! They worked endless hours at the studio and at home to reach this amazing goal. They have either won 1 st in reel, slip jig, treble jig,
and hornpipe, or was bumped up by Miss Colleen and is now ready to take a champ level class! Preliminary is the first champion level and Open is the highest level of Irish dance you can achieve. In order to reach Open, your dancer has to win 3 first place overall scores… no exceptions. Champion dancers spend their time in the studio training their bodies for fancy footwork, tireless stamina, confidence and attack, mindset training, and so much more. High level material is taught and then
customized to each dancer depending on their strengths. Champion classes are 1h45m.
Technique
Unlimited add-on
Technique is a 1 hour class focuses on building strength and pinpointing specific techniques to help your dancer make the most out of their steps. Your dancer will do workouts to help with building muscle. They will do technique based exercises to help with things such as turnout, arm control, crossover, toe height, and more. 1x a month, we have a yoga instructor come in and
teach a specified Yoga for the Dancer stretching class to teach proper stretching. Technique is a 1h add on class for unlimited dancers only.
